Surf Expo 2009 was great for WakeGirls. Before I go over our Surf Expo experience I must warn the faint of heart that this may be a vomit of information, so please excuse the mess. Ok, surf expo started on Thursday and our first meeting was with Company Wake. Justin Stephens and the whole gang from Company were awesome. They seem like a great group of people that will take wakeboarding to new heights. Justin went through their entire line and went into great detail on Nicola’s board. To top it off we got Randall “The Vandall” Harris to talk about his board, and this was just the start of things to come. Next we checked out the indoor rail jam, which was awesome. After the rail jam we ran into the guys from Stokemeter.com. Gary and Maurice are awesome; if you haven’t seen their site I strongly recommend checking it out. For those that don’t know, stokemeter does live video interviews with the best wakeboarders the industry has to offer. The remainder of the day was spent walking around getting footage of all the new products for next year; Great stuff being produced all around. The style is still very 80’s influenced with lots of bright colors and animal prints.
On Thursday night Wakeboarding magazine hosted the Wake Awards. What an evening, we were surrounded by the biggest names in the industry. It was a great night with Dallas Friday taking Best Female Rider of the Year, and Amber Wing winning Best Trick. The winners of best trick all received a diamond watch from Oakley, WOW! I want one.
Friday was very busy as well. Aside from meeting with a lot of companies, we got to meet the one and only, Paul O’Brien of Ronix . That was very cool. Don’t worry we made sure to get the run down of the new line for 2010 as well. Friday came to a close with a meeting with Freestyle to see all the cool new watches. We even got a sneak peek of a new line that they will be launching soon. Sorry, we weren’t allowed to take any pictures of the super secret stuff.
Let’s see, was there anything else that happened Friday…Oh yeah, the Parks Bonifay Documentary. Wow! I have to say that the Parks Documentary was one of the most amazing movies I have ever seen, and I’m not just talking wakeboarding movies. It was so well done. It had just about everything you would want in a movie…action…adventure…adversity followed by perseverance…and a few tears here and there. Seriously, go buy this movie as soon as it hits the shelves, I know I will! So I guess the point of this little story is that Parks Bonifay Documentary = don’t be stupid…Go buy it!
Saturday started off pretty much the same way as the two days before. We met with companies…got some footage…talk to some peeps. Then, all of a sudden Super Women, aka Amber Wing, showed up with a whole agenda of things for us to do. We started off at the Liquid Force booth to get the rundown on her board as well as the entire line of the LF women’s boards. Right as we were finishing up Melissa Marquardt came over to see what we were up to, so we thought it best to have her go over the new features on her board for 2010. After the LF booth Amber took us to the Oakley booth and introduced us to Matty Swanson and Jack Blodgett. Then we got the run down of some the new products coming out for the new year. After Oakley we got the run down from Straight Line and Supra Boats. By the way, Supra has a really cool new dash system with a camera mounted on the tower. Oh, did I mention that will be a standard feature for 2010? Well it is. At that time it was getting late and the lady on the PA system was informing us that it was getting time to leave. Just as we were making our way to the door we ran into to Dallas Friday, who just had her phone stolen the night before, so if you are reading this post and know the whereabouts of Ms. Friday’s phone please notify the proper authorities.
So in short, Surf Expo was awesome and we are all exhausted. Can’t wait till next year!
Surf Expo footage coming soon…
